Why Flat Clearance Is Different
Clearing a flat is not simply a smaller version of clearing a house, and pricing it as though it were is how people end up with a quote that changes on the day. In a house, most items go out through a front door onto a driveway. In a flat, everything comes out through shared space — a stairwell, a corridor, a lift — and that changes the time, the equipment and often what has to happen to the furniture before it can move at all.
A three-seater sofa that went into a first-floor flat before a stair turn was fitted, or that was assembled in the room, may need dismantling to come out. A fridge-freezer that came up in a goods lift needs the lift working and available to go back down. And in a block with restricted removal hours, the job has to fit the building's rules rather than yours. None of it is a problem — but all of it needs knowing in advance.

In a block or a converted house, everything outside the flat door belongs to other people too. We keep stairwells, corridors and lift lobbies clear as we work rather than staging items in them, protect lift interiors and doorways where needed, and never leave anything in shared areas between loads. If the building has a concierge or management team, we're happy to check in on arrival so they know who's on site and why. It sounds like a small thing, but it's the difference between a clearance that goes unnoticed and one that generates complaints.

A working lift makes an enormous difference. With one, a fourth-floor flat is barely harder than a ground-floor one — items go on a trolley, into the lift, and out to the vehicle. That's why the same contents can vary considerably in price depending on nothing more than the floor and the lift.
It's also why we ask rather than assume. Some blocks have a lift that's too small for a sofa. Some have a goods lift as well as a passenger one. Some have a lift that's out of service more often than not. Telling us what's actually there means the quote you get is the price you pay.
